Winter X Games Recap

For four long days and nights at the end of January I was able to work and play up in Aspen for Winter X Games. I was fortunate to work with Redbull and Winter X games doing a couple different events.

Redbull being one of the biggest corporate sponsors there had their presence everywhere, and I do mean everywhere. Everyday from Thursday to Sunday i was posted up on the beast that is the Redbull MXT. These trucks travel throughout the U.S and go to different Redbull sponsored events and have a full DJ rig set up inside. Two Technics 1200′s and a Rane 56 mixer ready to go at all times, a very nice! I played two days at the base of Aspen Mountain and two days at Snowmass Mountain from 11:30-2:30. Big shout out to Eric and Tyler who operate the MXT’s…if you are a single guy in your 20′s their job is a dream job!

Additionally, I was set up to DJ the VIP tent at the X games all four days as well from 6-9 ish. This tent is a place for corporate sponsors, VIP’s, and athletes to get out of the cold, get a bite to eat, and relax. This gig was refreshing and fun because I got to play a lot of music I normally don’t get to play at clubs and bars. Check pics below for the VIP tent set up.

Working the VIP tent and the Redbull MTX trucks was awesome but I think my favorite “work” aspect of Winter X games was Saturday night. I was set up to DJ at the Sky Bar at Sky Hotel. Redbull rented the entire hotel and had DJ’s in there every night. Redbull threw a kick off party on Thursday night with DJ Vice and DJ Dan (which was awesome, Vice got busy with it!)

So… I finished up at the VIP tent on Saturday night and busted ass over to Sky Bar to get going. When I got there about 9:30 the place was already busy and people looked like they were ready to party. I switched over from VIP tent music to party rocking mode and got into it. The night turned out to be very fun. Great crowd and good fun times all around. Thanks to the staff at Sky and everyone who came thru!

Come Sunday, I was beat. That didn’t stop me from hitting up the closing party at Hotel Jerome after all my gigs were wrapped up. Redbull rented out the ball room and had it all set up for DJ Spider, Bun B, and Diplo to perform. To say the least, I had a good time! Check the pics below!

Once again thank you to Tara Sprung from Redbull, DJ Naka G, Sky Bar staff, Kalei Hori and the VIP staff, and everyone who made my time up in Aspen great. Hope to be back again!

Winter X Games 2013

Winter X Games 2013

Very excited to head up to Aspen this week for the Winter X Games. I will be DJ’in in the VIP tent at the X games all four days and then doing a few events for Redbull around town. I’m assuming there will be little sleep this week. Where’s the Redbull at?

2013 Grand Prix Copper Mountain Recap

Last Friday and Saturday I traveled to Copper Mountain to DJ the last two days of competition for the opening stop of the 2013 Sprint Grand Prix. With big prize money and spots at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi on the line Pipe and slopestyle did not disappoint.  After spinning at Charlie Dwelington’s on Thursday night I got in my car EARLY Friday morning and battled a snowstorm to get up to Copper.

Once credentialed up, I made my way to Slopestyle to set up for practice runs and competition to follow. It was rather cold up there so thankfully we had a little shack to keep warm in. I was lucky enough to share the hut with some of extreme sports most knowledgeable commentators, agents, and past competitors. These included Brad Jay, Kevin Pearce, Binky DiPasquale, and many more.

Brad Jay-One the of best announcers in action sports, if not the best. Check out Brad’s website for everything action sports related and if you’re up in Aspen for X Games you will hear Brad on the mic. Get at him on Twitter too!

Kevin Pearce- Kevin was one of snowboarding best up and coming athletes before he suffered a traumatic brain injury. Kevin is now announcing different snowboarding events and is a natural on the mic. A documentary about Kevin is debuting at Sundance this year so keep your eyes open for that. What up KP!

After we finished up at Copper Mountain I was lucky enough to stay with DJ and overall good guy DJDC in Breckenridge. After catching some zzzz’s I caught up with DC at Liquid Lounge as he put down a set for the Breckenridge faithful.

Every DJ booth needs a sign like this!

The next morning we got up and made our way to the mountain for the final day of competition. The snow had stopped falling but the cold weather was single digits. Let’s just say my nipples could cut glass. Both men and women took to the course and British skier James Woods clinched the men’s slopestyle while on the ladies side American Keri Herman proved victorious.

My time at Copper was short lived but great nonetheless. Big thank you to Naka G, DJDC, and everyone that helped make this happen! Hope to see some of these same faces up at Winter X in Aspen next week.
